Description

Given that Cyprus is an island, there’s a serious lack of seaside climbing, but Bird Crag offers just that with expansive views of the Mediterranean and pleasant climbing on pocketed limestone less than one minute from the road.

Conditions

Bird Crag is a northeast-facing wall with afternoon shade. This crag has a short climbing season (September to December) due to the climbing ban during the peregrine falcon nesting season. The crag is fully in the shade from noon onwards in September.

History

One of the earlier crags developed in the North, mainly by Carter Mandrik.

Bird Crag

The area is access sensitive!

Access is restricted from January 1 to July 1 due to nesting peregrine falcons.

Access

From Kyrenia, follow the seaside road west towards Karsıyaka. Just after the village of Karsıyaka, turn right to continue along the seaside route. If you start going up the hill, you’ve gone too far. Follow this road for approximately 10 km until the rock is visible above the road on your left. Park in the large lay-by directly below the rock.

Approach

From the parking area, follow a small trail to the left of the fenced-off area that leads to the left side of the crag.
