Autiosaari is a single South/West facing block on cut-down forestry plot. There are no trees for shade so it gets quite warm during the day in Summer. On the other hand there aren’t that many mosquitoes which is a big plus. Best season to visit is on Spring or Autumn.
Rock quality is good. Holds tend to have quite sharp texture but there are some expections like ”Klamydia on perseestä, 6C” which has excellent holds all the way!
Other route recommendations include ”Hiomapenkki, 5+” which is a fun and technical slab arete. Autiosaari also hosts an excellent low grade route called ”Hienokainen, 4” which is a really good entry route for outdoor bouldering. Might even be the best grade 4 boulder in Rovaniemi area?
Highest routes are around 4 meters tall but the mean height is around 3 meters. Landings are really good so one pad is enough for most of the routes, if you’re climbing solo. There are some rocks pointing from the ground on the overhang side so it is advised to have more pads or a spotter there.
Climbing style is quite technical since most of it is on slab. Overhanging side is considered powerful.
