Description

This topo collects two huge boulders very close to the beautiful city of Sondrio, the main center of Valtellina valley.
The first boulder is Masso d’Arquino, a 6 meters highball of a great serpentine rock. It collects the amazing amount of 30 problems ranging from 5 to 8A, so there is something for everyone! The climbing style is various and depends on the boulder side. Landings are good. Some problems are really high, but you can top rope climb them to try the moves. Just fix a rope on the top of the boulder! The descent is easy, thanks to an iron ladder located on the South-East side. The approach cannot be any shorter, since you can park your car by the boulder.
The second boulder is Sasso Fidanken, a few hundreds of meters away from the first one. It is another big serpentine boulder where climbers discovered about 20 lines from 5 to 7C+. There are slabs with technical moves and roofs with dynoes. This sector is less frequented with respect to Masso d’Arquino, so the base and the rock could result more dirty.

Arquino is a great and boulder area that we highly recommend in the winter period. Together with Masso del Milite, Arquino is part of the bouldering history of the Valmalenco valley.
The area, nestled in the heart of the Alps on the border with Switzerland, is really nice and offers thousands of outdoor activities. Do not forget to stop here if you are spending your holiday in the Valtellina valley!!

History

Generations and generations of climbers have climbed on these walls since the 80s and the area is still highly frequented! The lines were discovered during the years by strong local climbers. We can remember Nicola Bruseghini, Matteo Zaiacomo, Miotti, Pigoni and Matteo Sera.
