Description

Near Karjaa's center, in the town of Finnbacka exists the cliff known as Antby. Due to recent tree felling, the cliff can be seen from the road and there is a grove developing under it. Even with the road, the location of the crag is idyllic and surrounded by nature. The obvious crack line in the middle of the blank wall is the route called Privatvägen (8c).

Antby's cliff faces west and is in the shade during the AM. The cliff dries quickly due to a low amount of trees. The terrain under the cliff gently slopes down, but is still easily traversable. There are no top anchors on the cliff, so building an anchor requires a long static rope.

History

Many people have visited the cliff during the years. The rock is situated right next to a big road and well visible. The smooth overhanging wall is very impressive but the possible routes are few.

In 2019 the grand central line Privatvägen (8c) was climbed by Tomi Nytorp. Privatvägen became the first trad route of grade 8c in Finland. The grading is in line with the original 8c grade of Syncro in Nummi. Subsequent ascents have thought Syncro should be given a higher grade. Time will tell if the same applies for Privatvägen.
